Your Representative in St. Paul works for you. That means achieving results for you and standing up as your Representative for the best interests of Minnesotans. I would live that out daily. I believe in servant leadership and directly being your advocate.
Legislators should work as a whole body, with those that are like-minded, and those who, at times, have conflicting priorities or different interests. I would get involved to help us come to better decisions as a group that achieve kitchen-table & bottom-line results for you. There are all too many Minnesotans afraid of rising tax burdens and a state government headed towards being half of the economy. Government should not be picking winners and losers, when the Star Tribune reports business success, it is mostly when the State government has some direct supporting role. In the meantime, our overgrown agencies are not minding their p's and q's or controlling the quality of their procedures. Money is going out the door without proper right or cause and that money is needed by businesses or families to invest in the next generation.
When it comes to the nature of my faith and politics, I believe in our God-given liberties and protecting them through necessary justice from government, as well as protecting them from government overreach. I am a Christian, a Catholic, and an evangelical believer, known in several of the district's congregations, but I am not one aggressive about government making personal, bedroom, or bodily decisions for individuals and families. I am a realist about our separated branches of government. Whatever the composition of the Legislature and the party affiliation of the next Governor, the Minnesota Supreme Court has made clear, in its own terms, that certain statutory authority limits are firmly in place constraining major changes, such as the Gomez decision. In a sense, this is not the major policy issue that my opponent would like to make it out to be. But, at the same time, it is concerning that there are Minnesota babies the government should be, but is not, protecting from an unnecessary death. I think I would represent a full majority of our District in bring the view that our current state-of-affairs has neglected the concerns we should have for the unborn, particularly those able to survive outside the womb, as well as women who suffer complications or mental health issues from abortion procedures. I would seek to address our collective blind spots and make genuine impacts for our communities.
I would do my best to derive and apply wisdom from this churn of discussion from you. I have an open mind and tastes, whether it is music, economics, or politics. Please share your legislative ideas that we should work to implement, as well as your red-line priorities about potential changes.
